Chesapeak Utilities Corporation

Business Overview

Chesapeake Utilities Corporation enjoys a long and prosperous history. The Dover Gas Light Company, formed in 1859, would eventually become Chesapeake Utilities Corporation, even though the Company wasn’t officially incorporated in the State of Delaware until 88 years later in 1947. The very next year, the Company acquired two smaller gas companies, one in Seaford, Delaware, and the other in nearby Salisbury, Maryland, and the Company hasn’t stopped growing ever since.

With the acquisition of Florida Public Utilities Company in 2009, the Company expanded its energy presence throughout the state of Florida. Chesapeake currently serves a total of approximately 200,000 customers and consists of three primary business segments: Regulated Energy; Unregulated Energy; and Other. At the end of 2009 Chesapeake’s market capitalization was approximately $300 million.

In total, Chesapeake employs over 750 people, and subscribes to the philosophy that the business is a partnership between our customers, our employees, the communities we serve, our investors and our business partners.
