Pride Month 2023

“Together, we’re changing the world – our planet – from a place of violence and war to a place of love and diversity and acceptance. That is why we’re here. That’s the big, long rainbow – from before me to well after me.”

– Gilbert Baker, artist, designer, activist and creator of the rainbow flag

ANNOUNCING THE PRIDE ERG

Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) play a vital role in creating a sense of belonging at Chesapeake Utilities. They bring us together based on common experiences and interests. ERG Awareness Week was April 24-28; many of you showed your support and participated in the various ERG events.

Until recently, Chesapeake had nine ERGs that allow employees to build connections across the organization while strengthening our workplace culture.

In May, we announced a 10th ERG, the new Pride ERG at Chesapeake. This ERG will focus on inclusion for employees within the LGBTQIA+ community, including supporters and allies.

Lindsay Foy is the executive sponsor for the Pride ERG. Barry Rainey is the Pride ERG chair, and Jessica Coxe is the second chair.

If you are interested in participating, please reach out to one of the Pride ERG leads or email [email protected].

Progress ● Support ● Inclusion

Lindsay Foy

“I’m thrilled that we are establishing a Pride ERG at Chesapeake Utilities and honored to be its executive sponsor. I attended an event hosted by the Pride ERG at my previous employer and was incredibly moved by statements made by one of the members of the group. She spoke about how being part of the Pride ERG had given her the confidence to “bring her whole self to work,” whereas previously she worried about whether she should mention her wife in conversation at work or display pictures of them together in her office. I hope that our Pride ERG will further inclusion here at Chesapeake Utilities and give anyone who needs it the support to bring their whole self to work every day.”

“June is Pride Month, commemorating the 1969 Stonewall event in New York City, and celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community and the fight for equal rights. As the newest employee resource group, Pride, we want to encourage members and allies of the community to participate in the employee resource group. We welcome the opportunity to tell you more about our plans for the ERG. To find out more about the Pride ERG, email us at [email protected].”

Our team values the strength of differences. This cultivates inclusion and drives innovation and creativity. ERGs involve employees who voluntarily organize around a particular identity, shared background or other interest aligning with the mission, vision and values of Chesapeake Utilities.

ERGs enable team members to share perspectives and experiences, advocate for common interests and provide recommendations that support key business objectives. They are a great place to build experiences and skills through mentorship, leadership opportunities and training. ERGS also offer opportunities to participate in community outreach and advocacy.
