Title: Operations Technician I
Business Unit: Aspire Energy
Years of Service: Six years
What is most rewarding within your role, or what are you most proud of within your role or in general?
It’s always rewarding to restore gas service after a customer outage that affects several customers. People will stop by and thank me for working so hard to restore their gas service. It really means a lot to me, and I am proud we are able to rectify customer issues.
Please share one of your more memorable moments while working with customers or being out in the community:
We once had an outage in the winter that resulted in some of customers being without heat for a time. We promised those customers we wouldn’t stop working until their service was restored. Our work continued until we were able to identify the issue and restore service to our last customer at 1:00 a.m..
We also had a brush fire that ignited one of our producer settings. The entire team came together to quickly isolate the fire and let it burn out. We repaired the setting and confirmed there was no damage to our pipeline, and retored service to over 30 customers in just over eight hours. It was a late night, but I was proud we could get our customers’ service restored so quickly and safely.
What was the moment that you knew that you made the right decision to work here?
I realized Aspire Energy was a great choice when my father passed away about a year into my time here. People in both Athens and Orrville reached out to me, and I knew I was working for a good company.
Please describe a day in the life within your role:
Every day is a little bit different. Compressor maintenance, MRU maintenance, leak repairs, customer outages, pipeline maintenance, etc. When I am on call, I make no other plans. I get my meals delivered or pick up takeout. I know at any time that the phone could ring, and I may need to respond to an emergency, a line strike or a simple meter freeze-off.
In general, regarding work and/or life outside of work, what means most to you?
Family means the most to me. My son is going to be sworn into the police force in Parkersburg, West Virginia next week, and we had to limit the attendance to eight people. That was difficult, and we really had to tell family members that I’m sorry, but you can’t come because they just don’t have enough room. That kind of support is what makes our family so special.

Title: Operations Technician I
Business Unit: Aspire Energy
Years of Service: Two years
What is most rewarding within your role, or what are you most proud of within your role or in general?
I like to work with the operations team on a daily basis. I especially like the teamwork when we have an issue, and the whole team works together to solve it. It’s great to work with a lot of good people. We had an outage last January that resulted in over 70 homes losing their gas service, but we were able to correct the issue, and relight all 70 customers within six hours.
Please share one of your more memorable moments while working with customers or being out in the community:
It’s exciting to help turn-on gas service for someone who has been cutting wood for fuel their entire life. They are so happy to not be cutting and hauling wood anymore that they sometimes get emotional and are so grateful for the ease of use that comes with our service.
What was the moment that you knew that you made the right decision to work here?
I was nervous coming into the Company at more than 50 years old. Jerry Knox trained me and really did a great job, which put my mind at ease. Now I am able to share that training with others.
Please describe a day in the life within your role:
I feel like my feet hit the ground and I am running from start to finish. A typical day has all kinds of tasks, from locating lines, service turn-ons, checking compressors and stations, to working through gas outages, and teaching others how to do these tasks. There is no rest for the weary.
In general, regarding work and/or life outside of work, what means most to you?
My world is my job, my family and my farm. I really put everything I have into those things.

During work, I am glad to see my coworkers doing well and able to make a lighthearted joke every now and then. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends and going home to my dog who is always eagerly waiting to greet me.
