Chesapeake Utilities leader honored for decades of industry leadership, commitment to developing others and service to communities

What does it mean to go above and beyond?

For Cheryl Martin, senior vice president of regulatory and external affairs at Chesapeake Utilities Corporation, it has meant more than building a successful career. It has meant helping advance the energy industry, investing in others and making a difference in the communities Chesapeake Utilities serves.

On Oct. 7, Cheryl was recognized as a Distinguished Woman in Florida at the 2026 Above & Beyond Awards. The recognition celebrated women whose leadership and service have made a meaningful difference. The honor reflected more than four decades of professional growth, leadership, mentorship and service.

A Career Built on Growth and Leadership

Cheryl’s career began at Florida Public Utilities in 1985, when she joined the Company as an accountant. Over the next several decades, she advanced through increasingly responsible roles in accounting, regulatory affairs and business leadership before moving into senior leadership with Chesapeake Utilities Corporation.

Along the way, she developed extensive knowledge of the energy industry and regulatory landscape, successfully helping navigate the Company through numerous rate cases, regulatory filings and initiatives. Her collaborative approach has brought together policymakers, regulators, business leaders and community stakeholders to help advance reliable, affordable and responsible energy solutions.

Cheryl’s influence is measured by more than the work she has helped advance. It is also reflected in the people she has encouraged, mentored and helped develop along the way.

Creating Opportunities for Others

Cheryl helped establish employee resource groups at Chesapeake Utilities and led the Company’s Women in Energy initiative, creating opportunities for mentorship, networking, professional development and leadership advancement. Through her guidance, sponsorship and advocacy, she has encouraged others to build their skills, pursue new opportunities and grow as leaders.

That investment in people speaks directly to the spirit of going above and beyond. Success is not only about how far you go, but also about helping others move forward with you. For Cheryl, that same commitment has extended beyond the workplace and into the communities Chesapeake Utilities serves.

Leading Through Service

Across Chesapeake Utilities’ service territories, Cheryl has supported charitable organizations and community programs, demonstrating a commitment to the people and places the Company serves.

Her professional leadership, investment in others and commitment to service tell a broader story about the impact one person can have throughout a career. Cheryl’s influence can be seen in the initiatives she has helped advance, the people she has mentored and the communities she has served.

“What makes Cheryl such a special leader is the way she invests in people,” said Jeff Householder, president and CEO of Chesapeake Utilities Corporation. “She lifts others up, creates opportunities and leads by example. We’re incredibly proud to see her receive this well-deserved recognition.”
