School Mentorship Program

The Chesapeake Cares Mentor Program enables our employees to connect with our communities and make a positive impact on the lives of local students.

Now in our tenth year, enthusiasm for our program continues to grow. Mentoring for just one hour a week can help make a school year even better for kids.

“It is the mentor’s responsibility to create a safe and trusting space that enables a mentee to stretch and step outside their comfort zone, take risks, and show up authentically.”

What Our Mentors Have to Say

“One of my greatest values of mentoring is the satisfaction of being able to help my mentees expand their knowledge, and skills, and gain the confidence they need to succeed. I lend an ear to listen and push in the right direction. I love this quote from Winston Churchill, ‘We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give’”

“There are so many children out in our communities that don’t have that one-on-one time with their parents to express feelings; or just to have time to play games with them; or have them read a book to them. It has been rewarding to have the opportunity to touch someone’s life and give them the time to express themselves. The young child that I mentored could not wait for me to come each week. It was her special time to shine.”

“I really enjoy our Tuesdays together. We get to hang out and play some sports and he gets to talk and discuss some things that may be on his mind. I’m happy to be Andrew’s mentor and I’m glad he feels the same way, and requests me on an annual basis.”
