Dover, Delaware – Eastern Shore Natural Gas Company (ESNG), a subsidiary of Chesapeake Utilities Corporation, received the American Gas Association’s (AGA) Safety Achievement Award for the seventh consecutive year in a row. The 2009 Safety Achievement Award, presented at AGA’s 2010 Operations Conference on May 12, 2010 in New Orleans, was given to companies that achieved the lowest ―DART‖ incident rate — a mathematical calculation that describes the number of recordable injuries and illnesses per 100 full-time employees that resulted in days away from work or restricted work activity.

“The safety of our customers and our employees is our highest priority,” said Michael P. McMasters, President and Chief Operating Officer of Chesapeake Utilities Corporation. “I’m extremely proud of the Eastern Shore team’s continued commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety.”

ESNG was the only company to receive this prestigious award for medium-sized transmission companies.

In addition, ESNG received the 2009 Industry Leader Accident Prevention Certificate.

Natural gas supplies nearly one-fourth (24%) of all the energy used in the United States and is a highly reliable, domestic energy source serving over 64 million residential customers and five million commercial enterprises in the United States. Ninety-nine (99%) of the natural gas used in the United States is produced in North America. Natural gas is the cleanest fuel readily available on the market today. It is far more efficient, cost-effective and environmentally friendly than other alternative sources when used in the home for heating and cooking. The direct use of natural gas can help the United States reach its carbon reduction goals; and its abundance as a domestic resource means that our country has enough natural gas to last more than a century, making it the clean energy to meet tomorrow’s needs.

The American Gas Association, founded in 1918, represents 195 local energy companies that deliver clean natural gas throughout the United States. Today, natural gas meets almost one-fourth of the United States’ energy needs.

Eastern Shore Natural Gas Company is the interstate natural gas pipeline subsidiary of Chesapeake Utilities Corporation. ESNG currently owns and operates 384 miles of high-pressure interstate pipeline on the Delmarva Peninsula. Both ESNG and Chesapeake Utilities Corporation are headquartered in Dover, DE.
