Project Overview

For its inaugural project, Aspire Energy Express invested $6.5 million to install a pipeline and meter and regulating station in Guernsey County, Ohio. These new facilities provide 300,000 dts/day of firm natural gas transportation service to the Guernsey Power Station (GPS) under a 10-year service agreement. GPS is a 1,875 megawatt natural gas-fired, combined cycle electric generation facility that produces electricity equivalent to the power needs of approximately 1.4 million homes.

Advancing our vision of delivering energy that contributes to a more sustainable future:

This project provides the connection between an unaffiliated Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC)-regulated interstate natural gas transmission pipeline and new local electric generation demand for natural gas.
It provides pipeline capacity to a clean-burning, efficient state-of-the-art combined cycle electric generation plant. The combined cycle technology allows for up to 50% more electricity to be generated from the equivalent amount of fuel at a traditional plant.
In early 2023, we engaged with Project Canary(R) to install a methane monitoring Sensirion Connected Solutions’ Nubo Sphere device at the project site. The device detects increased levels of methane in the atmosphere around the facilities, and should such increases occur, provides real-time alerts to our operating teams, furthering our commitment to providing an environmentally-friendly energy source.
The close proximity of the pipeline facilities to GPS allowed for additional landowner, community and environmental impacts to be minimized during the construction process.
With this project, Chesapeake Utilities’ second intrastate natural gas transmission pipeline subsidiary was established, replicating the successful business model of our flagship intrastate natural gas transmission pipeline located in Florida.
