A Decade of Innovation: Eight Flags Energy Featured in POWER Magazine

Featured Story, Innovation

Ten years ago, Chesapeake Utilities Corporation broke ground on a bold vision for sustainable energy on Amelia Island, Florida. In collaboration with Florida Public Utilities and Rayonier Advanced Materials Inc., we launched Eight Flags Energy, LLC—a $40 million combined heat and power (CHP) facility designed to deliver cleaner, more efficient energy to the region.

Today, that vision is thriving.

The Eight Flags CHP plant now serves approximately half of Amelia Island’s electricity demand, standing as a model of operational excellence, environmental stewardship, and collaborative success. From its Solar Titan 250 gas turbine and Rentech heat recovery steam generator to its pioneering hydrogen blend test in 2022, Eight Flags continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible in industrial energy.

Recently, POWER Magazine visited the facility to explore its impact, the strength of the partnership behind it, and the lessons learned over the past decade. Their feature offers a compelling look at how innovation, teamwork, and a commitment to sustainability have shaped one of our most forward-thinking ventures.
